Voyageurs!

The Voyageurs are coming! This weekend was the Feast of the Hunter's Moon here in Indiana. The Feast is celebrated at Fort Ouiotenon on the banks of the Wabash. The event is a reenactment of the days when Ouiotenon was a trading post--the 1700s. Flags of a number of European nations have flown over the Fort, although England and France were the major powers in the region. The Voyageurs brought trading goods from Canada in their large canoes. The journey was a long one, crossing Lake Superior and heading south via various rivers to the Wabash. One of the groups this year made the actual voyage across Lake Superior in their replica canoe! I'll post more images from this wonderful event over the next few days. Note that the Voyageurs brought their own priest, but his presence did little to blunt the celebration that marked their arrival.
