Ferns and fungi grow profusely on the remains of a fallen tree in McCormick State Park in Indiana.

Thanks for the kind comments. I reduced the saturation of this shot significantly--I wanted to achieve an echo of the muted tones you see in hand-colored Victorian photos of nature.

Viewfinder--I remember the old Anglican funeral service that had the line, "In life, we are in death." When I saw this old tree, I heard those words in my head the opposite way, "In death, we are in life."
